Visiting our hospitals

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is delighted to announce that, from Wednesday 24 December, open visiting will return.

Jennifer Wilson, Nurse Director, said: “We want to thank patients and families for their patience and support during the period of restricted visiting. These measures helped us protect vulnerable patients and manage infection risks. However, we know how important visiting is, especially during the festive season.

“While flu cases have slightly decreased, the virus is still circulating. Please only visit if you are symptom-free. If you feel unwell, even with mild symptoms, do not visit hospitals or healthcare settings. This is vital to keep patients safe.”

We ask that you avoid busier times where possible, such as early morning and mealtimes (unless assisting your loved one). You can find more information about visiting on our public website: https://www.nhsaaa.net/services/hospitals/visiting-our-hospitals/.

Face masks will continue to be available at ward entrances, and we encourage all visitors to wear them during their visit, as well as use the alcohol hand gel.

Please remember that the seasonal flu vaccination for those who are eligible is the best way to protect individuals. Washing our hands regularly, covering our noses and mouths when sneezing and coughing and disposing of used tissues carefully will help stop viruses spreading.

Jennifer Wilson adds: “We will review the situation daily and provide updates as needed. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in helping us keep patients, staff and visitors safe.”

In the meantime, there are things you can do to help reduce the spread of infection:
