NHS Ayrshire & Arran is proud to celebrate the success of five Project SEARCH South Ayrshire interns who completed a work placement programme at University Hospital Ayr between 3 November 2025 and 12 March 2026.
These placements marked the first partnership between University Hospital Ayr and the South Ayrshire Project SEARCH programme, based at Culzean Castle Country Park. The initiative provides young people with additional support needs the opportunity to gain meaningful workplace experience and develop the skills required for future employment.
During their placements, the interns gained hands-on experience in a variety of hospital departments, including Domestics, Portering, Catering, Medical Imaging, Public Health and Health Records. Throughout the programme, the interns built practical skills, increased their confidence and made valuable contributions to teams across the hospital.
The success of the programme was highlighted by one intern securing permanent employment following the placement – an outstanding achievement that reflects the dedication, hard work and commitment shown throughout the internship.

The interns recently celebrated their accomplishments at a Graduation Celebration held at Culzean Castle Country Park alongside family members, supporters and programme partners.
