The latest recipient of the Isabella Kimmett Compassionate Care Award has been announced, with NHS Ayrshire & Arran Home Haemodialysis Nurse Lesley Moore recognised for her outstanding dedication, empathy, and unwavering commitment to her patients and their families.
Presented twice a year, the award celebrates staff who demonstrate exceptional compassionate care. Lesley, who is part of the team based at the John Lynch Renal Unit, University Hospital Crosshouse, was nominated for consistently going above and beyond to provide patient-centred, compassionate care.
Providing care for individuals managing their dialysis at home, Lesley not only provides clinical expertise, but also patience, understanding, and the ability to build trust in deeply personal circumstances. Lesley consistently goes the extra mile to make sure her patients and their families feel supported, confident, and cared for throughout what can often be a challenging and life-altering journey.
Lesley’s patients say that she makes them feel like they are the only patient she has and takes the time to listen to their concerns and fears, responding with genuine kindness and reassurance.
The award was recently presented by Jacqueline Thomson, daughter of the late Isabella Kimmett, with NHS Ayrshire & Arran Nurse Director Jennifer Wilson also in attendance. Jennifer said:
“At NHS Ayrshire & Arran, we are committed to embedding compassion and person-centred care throughout our services. Lesley truly embodies these values, and the impact she has had on the lives of local patients and their families is truly exceptional. This award is thoroughly deserved, and I extend my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to her.”
If you know someone who deserves to be awarded for the quality of their compassionate care, you can nominate them by emailing compassionatecareaward@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and asking for a nomination form. We are happy to take nominations from patients, family members and colleagues.
