Activity

Activity can affect blood glucose levels.

Activity could include:

  • walking the dog
  • cutting your grass
  • playing football
  • attending an exercise class
  • extreme or prolonged duration activities, such as mountain climbing or running a marathon

Anaerobic exercise (for example weights and resistance) tends to increase blood glucose levels.

Things to consider

  • Monitor blood glucose levels closely – before, during and after activity
  • Ensure you carry appropriate treatment for hypoglycaemia
  • You may wish to consider altering your insulin doses
  • You may require a snack
