You can still drink alcohol if you have diabetes and are on insulin.

Alcohol may lower blood glucose levels.

Things to consider:

  • Regularly check your blood glucose levels
  • Ensure you carry appropriate treatment for hypoglycaemia
  • Eat carbohydrate before bed
  • It is beneficial for someone to know you have diabetes

Please note in cases of severe hypoglycaemia, Glucagen is less effective when you have been drinking alcohol.
