Preparations are well underway to offer seasonal flu and COVID-19 booster vaccines to those eligible on the Isle of Arran.

As set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) this winter those most at risk will be offered their winter vaccinations to top up protection against the viruses, which can cause serious illness for some people. On Arran, appointments have already been issued for initial local vaccination clinics planned as follows:

  • Friday 8 September 2023, 9.30am – 6pm at Ormidale Sports Pavillion, Brodick. This clinic will host flu only vaccination appointments for people aged 50 to 64 years.
  • Saturday 9 September 2023, 8.30am – 6.30pm at Arran High School, Lamlash. This clinic will host flu only vaccination appointments for people aged 50 to 64 years, as well as flu and COVID-19 boosters for people aged 65 to 74 years.
  • Sunday 10 September 2023, 8.30am – 3pm at Arran High School, Lamlash. This clinic will host flu and COVID-19 booster appointments for people aged 65 to 74 years.

You should have received your appointment by post in a white NHS envelope, unless you have indicated a digital preference for contact, in which case you will receive a text or email with details on when and where to attend.

In addition to further clinics planned later in September, vaccinators will also be arranging to visit housebound patients in their own home, as well as care home residents and staff.

Health and Social Care Workers, who are eligible for seasonal flu and COVID-19 (frontline staff only), should follow advice from their place of work regarding local vaccination opportunities.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Assistant Director of Public Health Lisa Davidson said:

“Our Mass Vaccination Service is very much looking forward to hosting winter vaccine clinics on the Isle of Arran.

“Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and we strongly encourage those eligible to take up the offer when it comes. Viruses are always changing and getting vaccinated every year is the best way to stay protected.

“Remember that if you are eligible for both winter vaccines, where possible you will be offered them at the same time. Everyone will be offered the type of vaccine that is best for them.”
