Out of Hours Care

NHS 24 – 111

If you think you need urgent care but it is not life-threatening, call NHS 24 on 111 and you will be assessed over the telephone and referred to the right healthcare professional.

NHS 24 can direct you to the best place to get help if you cannot contact your GP during the day, or when your GP is closed (out-of-hours).

They will give you advice over the phone or arrange an appointment at your nearest Out of Hours Service. If they believe you are too ill to travel they might arrange a home visit.

Ayrshire Urgent Care Service (AUCS)

The Ayrshire Urgent Care Service brings together a number of existing services into one ‘urgent care hub’, operating from the Lister Centre at University Hospital Crosshouse. This centre is supported by the existing two urgent care centres at University Hospital Ayr and Ayrshire Central Hospital, and the home visiting service. Services based at the centre will include:

  • Ayrshire Doctors On Call (ADOC);
  • Out-of-hours district nursing service;
  • Crisis Resolution Team;
  • Out-of-hours social work; and
  • East Ayrshire overnight emergency response personal carers.

Redesigning these services will mean that our out-of-hours services are sustainable and can meet the demands of our population now, and into the future. It also means that health and social care services are integrated, providing a more joined-up service for patients.

Always call NHS 24 on 111 to access out-of-hours urgent care.
