Pregnant women – Flu vaccine information

Women at any stage of their pregnancy are eligible for a free flu vaccination.

The Royal College of Midwives along with Scotland’s Chief Medical and Chief Nursing Officers recommend that all pregnant women should have the free flu vaccine every time you are pregnant, as the flu viruses circulating change each year. In Ayrshire there are a number of options for pregnant women to receive this vaccination:

  • You can attend a participating local community pharmacy.
  • You will be offered the vaccine at your initial 12 week scan appointment.
  • You will also be offered the vaccine at your routine 20 week appointment at the same time as your whooping cough vaccine.

If you have already had these appointments and are yet to have your seasonal flu vaccine, you can contact 01563 826540, Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm to arrange an appointment for vaccination. If possible, please indicate which of the following options would be most convenient to you:

  • South Ayrshire seasonal flu clinic for pregnant women at Heathfield Suite, University Hospital Ayr on Friday afternoons.
  • North Ayrshire seasonal flu clinic for pregnant women at Ayrshire Central Hospital on Monday afternoons.
  •  Appointments are also available at the Ayrshire Maternity Unit (AMU) throughout the week.
