FreeStyle Libre is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system that doesn’t require a blood sample from a finger stick. It is manufactured by Abbott.
The monitor works via a small sensor placed just below the surface of your skin. You need to place the accompanying screen monitor above the system to get your glucose reading.
Each sensor lasts up to 14-15 days:
- Libre 2 – 14 days
- Libre 2 plus – 15 days
People with type 2 diabetes on multiple day injections may be eligible for funding for FreeStyle Libre. Please contact the Diabetes team if you wish to discuss this.
