Roadworks on the approach to University Hospital Crosshouse

  • by NHSAAA

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is aware that some staff and people visiting University Hospital Crosshouse this morning (Tuesday 20 January 2026) experienced disruption and delay as a result of the planned roadworks on the main road outside the hospital.

This was caused by a temporary failure of one of the traffic lights on the Kilmarnock side. Contractors and Ayrshire Roads Alliance have put additional measures in place to help improve traffic flow for the duration of the works.

  • Traffic lights will be staffed from 7am to 8.15pm, supported by a dedicated spotter on the A71 to adjust signal timings when traffic begins to build.
  • Morning peak: Priority will be given to traffic travelling from the Kilmarnock/Moorfield direction.
  • Evening peak (4.30pm to 5.30pm): Priority will be given to vehicles exiting University Hospital Crosshouse via both the main exit and the East Car Park traffic lights.

The roadworks is expected to continue for approximately eight weeks

Jacqueline Nicol, Site Director for University Hospital Crosshouse added: “We ask staff and patients to allow extra time for the journey and, where possible, consider car sharing or alternative modes of transport for the duration of the works.”
