COVID-19 spring boosters on the Isle of Arran

  • by

Residents on Arran eligible for a further COVID-19 booster vaccination this spring are being invited to attend upcoming clinics on the island.

The COVID-19 vaccination programme aims to protect those most vulnerable to severe coronavirus and the following groups are eligible for an additional booster vaccination to help maintain levels of immunity:

  • everyone aged 75 years and over on 30 June 2024 (i.e. born on or before 30 June 1949);
  • residents in care homes for older adults; and
  • people aged 6 months and over (by 31 March 2024) who have a weakened immune system.

Appointments are being issued to clinics taking place at the Ormidale Sports Pavilion, Brodick on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 24 April 2024, 9.30am – 5pm
  • Thursday 25 April  2024, 9.30am – 3pm

If you are invited but are unable to attend on the date given, please follow the instructions on your letter to reschedule your appointment. Visits to housebound patients and care home residents on the island have already begun and will be completed soon.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Public Health Assistant Director Lisa Davidson said:

“This spring our vaccination teams are returning to Arran to offer COVID-19 boosters to those eligible. Getting vaccinated is the safest and most effective way to protect yourself against coronavirus, so I’d encourage everyone invited to take up the offer.

“Even if you had a COVID-19 vaccine in the winter, it’s important for those in a more at risk group to get another dose this spring, as protection can fade over time.

“Eligible local people should look out for appointments arriving by post in an NHS branded letter, or by email or text message, depending on communication preference. Our staff are looking forward to welcoming you back to the Ormidale Sports Pavilion and plans are already in progress for care home and home visits where required.”
