Volunteers’ Week is 1-7 June 2026, and is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. NHS Ayrshire & Arran is celebrating all the many volunteers who support our hospital services throughout the year.
We recognise the positive contribution volunteers make across the organisation, in partnership with patients, families and staff. NHS Ayrshire & Arran supports approximately 200 volunteers in a variety of roles which make a genuine difference to patients’ experiences, whilst supporting staff to deliver care and key services.
All our volunteers bring a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience from all walks of life – from young people, to retirees who wish to contribute a few hours to their local health communities or services. They each bring compassion, kindness and reassurance at moments when it matters most. Whether offering a listening ear, supporting patients and families, helping within our hospitals or giving their time in the wider community.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran Chief Executive, Professor Gordon James said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank every one of our volunteers for the incredible contribution that you make to our patients, staff and communities every day.
“The willingness to step up and lend a helping hand reinforces the spirit of community and compassion that defines our NHS. Your generosity, dedication and community spirit are deeply valued and appreciated.
“On behalf of everyone at NHS Ayrshire & Arran, thank you for everything you do.”
