The Hospital Volunteers of University Hospital Crosshouse recently held their Annual General Meeting (AGM), where they proudly presented NHS Ayrshire & Arran with a cheque for £225,000. This latest contribution brings the total raised by the volunteers since 2001 to more than £5,275,000.
Established in 2001, the Hospital Volunteers service has been a vital part of University Hospital Crosshouse for more than 24 years. The kind-hearted volunteers have consistently supported the hospital by running the shop, café, and ward trolley service.
During the AGM, Lesley Bowie, Chair of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, warmly welcomed the volunteers and expressed her appreciation for their continued dedication. She remarked:
“We are incredibly fortunate to have 240 dedicated volunteers who deliver the outstanding Hospital Volunteers service at University Hospital Crosshouse. Their willingness to give their time and energy makes a real difference to patients, visitors, and staff alike. Often, they are the first point of contact for people coming into the hospital, and thanks to their warmth and professionalism, that first impression is always a positive one.
“Their generosity over the years has significantly enhanced the patient experience—funding projects such as the refurbishment of relatives’ and quiet rooms, the purchase of specialist beds and mattresses, birthing beds for the labour suite, and insulin pumps for children with diabetes.
“Their compassion, commitment, and selflessness are truly inspiring. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them. It is both a pleasure and a privilege to have them as part of our team.”
