The Caring for Ayrshire vision

People are living longer and healthier lives, supported by medical advances, technology and improved public health. As more of us are living longer, the number of people needing care is increasing. This means our health and care services need to evolve to make sure we can look after more people, in better ways now and in the future.

Some new ways of working are already underway. We want to plan with people to help build on this and generate ideas to improve health and care services for everyone in Ayrshire and Arran.

The right care in the right place

Caring for Ayrshire is about enabling people to access the care they need closer to home, where it is safe and practical to do so.

Whilst we want to ensure local services continue to provide routine community and hospital care, more specialised services will be delivered in regional centres, or, in some cases at a national level.

This means that people of Ayrshire and Arran will have access to the best care and clinical expertise.

Looking after our own health and wellbeing

To meet the demands of the future, we all have a role to play in supporting Ayrshire and Arran health and care services.

By doing what we can now to look after our own health and wellbeing, we can make sure services are there for when people really need them. Our health and care services are finite resources.

This means we need to provide existing and new services in better ways, while ensuring the best quality of care.

Integrated health and care system

NHS Ayrshire & Arran and the three health and social care partnerships are working together to create an integrated health and care service model.

This looks at all aspects of health and care from birth, to end of life, and puts you at the centre of care.

It’s about enabling people to access high quality primary and community care services closer to home and, when required, accessing specialist care in our local hospitals and national services.
