Maryjane Young, Prescribing Support Nurse, East Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership

Maryjane Young has delivered outstanding, patient‑focused pharmaceutical care across NHS Ayrshire & Arran, strengthening services from District Nursing and CTAC (Community Treatment and Care) to Prison Healthcare, Care Homes and Podiatry. A key achievement has been leading the successful rollout of PECOS (Provider Enrolment, Chain, and Ownership System) for ordering wound products, reducing waste, improving access to formulary items, and freeing up clinical time. Her collaborative approach – with community nursing, CTAC, finance, procurement and pharmacy – has ensured smooth implementation and strong governance. The project has already saved £251,696 since October 2023, while improving patient and staff experience and supporting a more sustainable approach to wound care. Through her leadership, commitment and compassion, Maryjane has transformed wound‑care pathways and delivered a service that is clinically effective, financially sustainable and truly centred on patient needs.

Hannah Macmillan, Senior Assistant Accountant

Since joining the team in October 2023, Hannah has quickly stood out as a rising star within Management Accounting. Mature beyond her years, she has demonstrated exceptional work ethic, strong communication skills and impressive accounting ability – earning a promotion from Band 4 to Band 5 within her first year. Alongside progressing steadily through her ACCA studies, Hannah has taken on a national role as the lead for all ACCA students within NHS Scotland, helping to establish and shape this new forum. Locally, she also supports colleagues studying for professional qualifications, ensuring fairness, consistency and clear reporting on progress. Highly respected by peers and leading confidently by example, Hannah has already shown the qualities of an excellent future senior manager, making her a truly deserving nominee.

Emma McGilvery, Pharmacist Independent Prescriber, Pharmacy Homeless Outreach Engagement Non medical Independent prescribing (PHOENIx) Trial, North and South Ayrshire

In just over a year, Emma has transformed a completely new role in Ayrshire & Arran, reaching people facing severe disadvantage – homelessness, substance dependence and justice involvement – who often experience the poorest health outcomes. As an assertive outreach pharmacist, she met people wherever they were, providing urgent care, prescribing, helping them register with services, and connecting them to hospital, recovery and support. Working largely on her own at first, Emma built strong relationships with partner organisations and, most importantly, with the people she supported, increasing trust and offering hope. Her work has informed national research and helped secure new investment to continue supporting this vulnerable population. Emma’s compassion, determination and ability to reach those who are often forgotten make her truly deserving of recognition – a genuine shining star.
