Dr Tom Hopkins was appointed to the NHS Ayrshire & Arran Board on 18 August 2023 in his capacity as the Elected Chair of the Area Clinical Forum.
Tom has been an Accident & Emergency (A&E) Consultant in NHS Ayrshire & Arran since 2015 and now works across both A&E Departments at University Hospital Crosshouse and Ayr.
Tom completed his postgraduate training in Emergency Medicine within the North and East Deaneries of Scotland and he was a substantive Consultant in NHS Grampian prior to taking up his role in Ayrshire & Arran. He has a sub-specialty interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and completed training for this in both the North and West Deaneries of NHS Scotland.
Tom has been a Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine at Crosshouse Hospital and has been a member of the Hospital Sub-committee since its re-inception approximately five years ago. As well as working as an A&E Consultant in Ayrshire & Arran, Tom also acts as an external advisor for Consultant appointments across NHS Scotland and he has been part of the Local Negotiation Committee for the British Medical Association for a number of years.
Tom is a member of the Healthcare Governance Committee and Staff Governance Committees. He is also an NHS non-executive member of the North Ayrshire integration joint board.
