Ayrshire & Arran Health Board Charity Endowment Fund
What is the Charity Fund?
The Ayrshire and Arran Health Board Charity Fund (also known as the Endowment Funds) is a registered charity the purpose of which is the advancement of health, through:
- improvement in the physical and mental health of the Board’s population;
- the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness;
- the provision of services and facilities in connection to the above;
- education and development in connection to the above
- research into any matters relating to the causation, prevention, diagnosis or treatment of illness, or into such other matters relating to the health service as the Trustees see fit.
- to observe any conditions attached to a donation or legacy prescribed by a donor to the charity, so far as is reasonably practicable, and consistent with the above purpose and the law.
How is the fund used?
The funds are used to support a wide range of activities which cannot be supported from Government funding. Grants range from small amounts of money for therapeutic materials in areas such as occupational therapy and physiotherapy aids; toys for the children’s ward and waiting areas, to more substantial grants for pieces of equipment which advance the way treatment is provided. The fund also supports medical research and advanced training for staff.
State of the art Theatre: The Charity Fund recently supported the purchase of Scotland’s first state-of-the-art 4K operating theatre at Ayrshire & Arran’s University Hospital Ayr (UHA). A 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) camera platform offers four times the resolution of High Definition (HD) improving visibility and allowing for more precision in surgery. The Theatre is also fully integrated (one of only four in Scotland) allowing different equipment and systems to communicate with each other giving surgeons access to patient information such as X-rays and video from a single device. Donate:
Within the charity fund there are numerous funds restricted to specific wards and medical specialties under designated ‘fundholders’. If you wish to donate to a particular area of the Health Board you can be assured that your donation will be used directly by that area. Donations can be made through our JustGiving website, handed to Hospital Cashiers, mailed to the contact address at the bottom of this page or handed to ward staff (receipts are always supplied). Please make cheques payable to NHS Ayrshire & Arran Endowment Fund. If you are a UK tax payer please GiftAid your donation by downloading the GiftAid form, this will let us claim an extra 25 per cent of your donation back from the taxman.
Volunteer:
Hospital volunteers raise thousands of pounds every year from their work, including running the cafés and shops in our hospitals. For more information please visit our Volunteering page.
Fundraising:
You can set up your own page on our JustGiving website where your friends and family will be able to make their donation direct without the need for you to collect money or use our Charity collection form – this format is approved by HMRC and enables your sponsors to GiftAid their donation. Advice on fundraising events can be obtained by contacting the Endowment Office at Greenan House.
Leave a legacy in your will:
If you need advice please ask your solicitor, he can obtain further information from the Endowment office at Greenan House, Ailsa Hospital, if this is required.
Governance of the charity fund
