Mixing cannabis with tobacco is harmful because it locks people into nicotine addiction, increases lung damage and makes quitting much harder while also adding mental health risks.
Many people want to stop smoking tobacco but also use cannabis. It is important to address both together. Stopping usually works best with tailored support that recognises both habits (tobacco AND cannabis use). Using stop‑smoking aids such as nicotine replacement therapy and specialist behavioural support can help manage nicotine cravings while also encouraging people to stop using tobacco.
From a health perspective, smoking cannabis can still damage the lungs, worsen coughs and breathing problems and increase the risk of dependence. Frequent use has also been linked to anxiety, low mood and for some people, poorer concentration or mental health symptoms. Supporting people to quit tobacco while having honest conversations about safer choices, downsizing use and mental wellbeing can improve overall health without judgement.
