NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Public Health team attended the AIG Women’s Open at Dundonald Links in Irvine on 23 to 26 July, to put women’s health and wellbeing in the spotlight at one of Scotland’s premier sporting events.
Throughout the four-day event, the Public Health team hosted an interactive stall in the Health & Wellbeing Village, organised by Active Scotland, alongside a range of charities and organisations from the health, sport and third sectors.
By bringing together partners with a shared aim of inspiring people to lead healthier, more active lives, it provided a valuable opportunity to engage directly with spectators attending the championship and share information, advice and support on health and wellbeing.
The stall attracted visitors of all ages, offering opportunities to access information, resources and advice on a range of women’s health topics, while learning more about the support available locally.
The event also provided an opportunity to promote the benefits of physical activity and highlight how movement in all its forms can positively impact physical and mental wellbeing.
Lynne McNiven, Public Health Director for NHS Ayrshire & Arran, said:
“The AIG Women’s Open provided a fantastic opportunity to engage with local communities and visitors from across the country. Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, and attending the event allowed us to start important conversations about women’s health, wellbeing and the benefits of staying active.
“We were delighted to work alongside Active Scotland and a wide range of partners to share important information and support available to women. Events like this help us reach people who may not normally engage with health services and demonstrate how movement, no matter how big or small, can have a positive impact on everyday life.”
