Speech and language therapy for neurodivergent communication and stammering in adults

Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term for conditions like:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

It means that some people think, learn and process information differently. These people are neurodivergent and their brains work differently from the average or neurotypical person.

A Speech and Language Therapist will assess, identify and provide support for any speech, language and communication difficulties.

Stammering

Stammering (also known as stuttering or dysfluency) is a difference in the way some people speak. Everyone’s stammer is unique.

Someone who stammers might:

  • repeat words or sounds
  • stretch or prolong sounds
  • have a silent block where the sound gets stuck

Speech and Language Therapists aim to enable people who stammer to communicate effectively.
