Registering your pregnancy

When you find out you are pregnant and are ready to inform the Maternity Unit, please contact them on 01294 825411, Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 2:20pm.

When you call, the team will ask for some personal details, including your name, address, postcode, email address, and how many weeks pregnant you believe you are.

You will then be given information about the BadgerNet app. This mobile app allows you to view important information leaflets, your maternity records, and your upcoming appointments. The staff member will guide you through the process of downloading and accessing the app during the call.

After this, you will be advised about the next steps:

You will have your first appointment with your named midwife, usually between 6–10 weeks of pregnancy. This is usually face to face appointment that will take around two hours. This will be your opportunity to share as much information as you can about your health and wellbeing, if you are already further along when you first contact the Maternity Unit, this appointment will be arranged as soon as possible.

Following this, you will receive an appointment with a Maternity Care Assistant (MCA). At this visit, your bloods will be taken, and your height and weight will be recorded. You will also receive important information about nutrition in pregnancy, Healthy Start vitamins, and financial inclusion support if applicable.

You will be offered a dating ultrasound scan around 12 weeks, depending on when you make initial contact with the service. Your named midwife will arrange further appointments with you.
