NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Annual Review took place on Thursday 13 November and presented the organisation’s performance, achievements, and developments for the last year, as well as the challenges that lie ahead.

The event brought together members of the public, staff, and patients, offering a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand how NHS Ayrshire & Arran is performing.

Those attending were able to engage with the Board Chair, Chief Executive, and Executive Team, asking questions on a wide range of topics, including climate change, shared decision-making, diabetes services and complaints process.

Lesley Bowie, Chair of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, welcomed everyone and spoke about the achievements and challenges over the last year. She explained: “These annual reviews are an important way for NHS Boards to demonstrate accountability for the significant public investment we receive. They also provide a platform to celebrate the many successful projects and innovations that have been introduced during the review period.”

Chief Executive Professor Gordon James said: “Looking ahead, we recognise that the coming year will bring challenges, and we are committed to driving sustained improvements across key areas of service. Our focus remains on delivering the best possible outcomes for patients and families across Ayrshire and Arran.

“We will achieve this through the delivery of our Caring for Ayrshire programme. Caring for Ayrshire is a long-term, clinically led transformation programme that will shape how we deliver services in the future. Its aim is to improve health and wellbeing, reduce inequalities, and ensure services remain safe, sustainable, and financially viable for years to come.”

Lesley Bowie added: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank our dedicated staff and volunteers across health and social care. Their commitment and professionalism ensure that patients receive the highest standard of care every day, despite the pressures faced across the system.

“Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the review and contributed their questions and insights. Your engagement helps us shape a stronger, more responsive health service for our communities.”
