Injectable Therapies

What is injectable therapies?

The injectable therapies programme has been developed to support people with Type 2 diabetes on insulin and glucose lowering tablet medication to safely adjust treatment doses according to their lifestyle, and help those on GLP-1 therapy understand the options they have to manage their diabetes.

Where?

Injectable therapies is delivered at community venues in North, South and East Ayrshire.

North: Fullarton Community Hub, 1 School Lane, Irvine, KA12 8DF

South: Asda Ayr, Liberator Drive, Heathfield Retail Park, Ayr, KA8 9BF

East: The Howard Centre, 5 Portland Road, Kilmarnock, KA1 2BT

Expectations

Injectable therapies consists of four patient group sessions. This consists of one core session and three topic sessions:

Core Session

  • Patient Stories
  • About insulin, GLP and oral medications
  • Monitoring Blood Glucose Levels
  • Introduction to stepwise approach

Topic Session 1

  • Carbohydrate awareness
  • Weight management
  • Physical activity

Topic Session 2

  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Driving

Topic Session 3

  • Illness
  • Travel
  • Feasting and Fasting

Sessions run weekly for four consecutive weeks.

Groups are delivered every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Am sessions: 09.30-13.00 (core session) and 09.30-12.30 (topic sessions)

Pm sessions: 13.30-17.00 (core session) and 13.30-16.30 (topic sessions)

To complete the course you must complete the core session and all topic sessions.
