Councillor William Gibson

Councillor William Gibson was appointed Leader of North Ayrshire
Council in May 2012.
First elected in 2007, Councillor Gibson represents the
Saltcoats and Stevenston ward and served as Depute Leader of the
SNP during the last administration.
Since joining the Council, Councillor Gibson has been involved
in a variety of Council and external bodies, chairing North
Ayrshire Licensing Committee and becoming a member of the
COSLA Education, Children and Young People Executive Group.
As well as being Leader of North Ayrshire Council, Councillor
Gibson is Chair of the Cabinet, Community Planning Partnership and
Community Health Partnership. He is also a non-executive member of
Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board.
Councillor Gibson taught mathematics at a number of secondary
schools and was Depute Head Teacher at Auchenharvie Academy in
Stevenston for eight years.
Born and raised in North Ayrshire, Councillor Gibson attended
Ardrossan Academy. He is married with four children and has a wide
range of sporting interests, particularly rugby and golf.
