The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is based around three locality teams, consisting of specialist clinicians who can offer assessment and a range of interventions.

Interventions can vary from short term treatments for those with mild to moderate mental health problems; to more complex treatments for children and young people experiencing more severe and complex problems. Assessment and treatment can be offered to children from age five age 18. A small number of children may require support under the age of five in partnership with other child health colleagues.

All above services can be contacted Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm.

Referrals to CAMHS: should be made through individual's family doctor (GP), social work, or education services. Out-of-hours access to mental health services is available through NHS24 on 111 in the first instance. Other access routes may be used in other specific emergency situations.

Inpatient services for children and young people are only by special arrangement, and depending on individual circumstances at the time, including:
