About us

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Library and Knowledge Services logo

Our Library Services team offer support to all NHS and health and social care partnership staff in Ayrshire & Arran, as well as healthcare students on placement.

We have libraries at Ayr, Crosshouse and Ayrshire Central hospitals. However, you can access the same level of service and support if you work in a community location.

All of our services are free to staff and healthcare students.

24 hour access to our libraries is available – just ask library staff for access details if you intend to visit in the evening or weekend.

For more on our services, please follow us on Twitter.

Locations

Our libraries are located in the Education Centres of University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr.

At Ayrshire Central Hospital, you will find the library upstairs at Woodland View.

Dining facilities are located close by our libraries and you are welcome to bring food and drink into the library with you whilst studying. Comfortable seating areas with wellbeing books can also be found in all our libraries if you prefer to relax and unwind.

What we do

We are skilled in finding and summarising quality evidence to help you make the best decisions for your patients and clients.

Ask us for a literature search if you have a particular question in mind – for example, if you would like to review your service, update a guideline or keep abreast of the latest treatments for a particular condition.

We can also show you how to conduct evidence-based searches yourself and this will save you time if you are conducting literature reviews as part of coursework.

If you need help to find books and journal articles, we are happy to help.

Resources

The Knowledge Network is the national online information library for healthcare staff in Scotland. It contains a catalogue of all the books we have in our libraries, both in Ayrshire & Arran and across Scotland. It also has thousands of ebooks, ejournals and decision support tools easily accessible online.

You can login with your NHS login to order books and get online access to articles and ebooks. Health and social care partnership staff can register online for access.

We also offer online exam revision resources for doctors in training, free submission to BMJ Case Reports and access to online CPD through RCPsych. All our libraries have:

  • wifi
  • PCs
  • printing and scanning facilities
