Audiology (Hearing and Balance)

People attending the audiology service often do so because of difficulties with their hearing. Following a visit to the audiology service, we may recommend that you need a hearing aid.

The audiology service routinely fits digital behind-the-ear hearing aids to all new patients and those who need their old hearing aids updated or replaced.

Your audiologist will try to make sure that your hearing needs are met and at the same time explain to you the benefits and limitations of using hearing aids. Hearing aids usually provide significant improvement after you have had time to adjust and learn how best to use them.

Sensory Impaired Support Group

We are well known within Ayrshire & Arran as one of the Voluntary Services providing support to the
hearing and visually impaired population.

During this difficult time we have had to change the way we work but want to assure our service users that as soon as it is safe and practical we will look to reinstate some of our services however in the meantime we can offer the following:

  • Regular “Support Calls” to older people with hearing or sight loss to provide emotional support and help reduce isolation in addition to asking if they require any practical help i.e. hearing aid batteries/equipment etc.
  • Providing hearing aid batteries to Voluntary Action South Ayrshire (VASA) who can, via our Service help to distribute to hearing aid users by post.
  • Following another successful bid to the Big Lottery, we will receive funding that will support the distribution of “Sensory Help Packs” that include: hearing aid cleaning tools, puffer, wipes, batteries, magnifier, bump ons, “Hearing Tips” & Sight Loss Tips” & “Stress Management Tips”.

We will be re-opening our “Ayr Sensory Station” every Wednesday morning from 10am-12pm with effect from Wednesday 13th May and will be offering – hearing aid batteries, practical help & advice on hearing or sight loss, signposting, advice on equipment/adapted telephones and more.
