To help promote World Mental Health Day on Tuesday 10 October, Ailsa Hospital’s Acorn Furniture Workshops are hosting a charity presentation of the film A Beautiful Mind at the Odeon Cinema in Kilmarnock at 6.45pm. Tickets cost £10 and include entry in to a raffle.
George Nish, Senior Charge Nurse at Acorn Furniture Workshops, explains: “We thought this particular film was appropriate as it depicts the struggles of an individual who experiences a serious mental health illness and how that illness impacts on relationships and daily life. All money raised will be divided between Acorn Furniture Workshops and the Royal College of Nursing Foundation.”
The Workshops are also hosting an open day on Tuesday 10 October from 10am to 2pm to provide members of the public an opportunity to see the range of services they provide. Visitors will view some of the crafts manufactured by their woodwork, wood turning, upholstery, and picture framing departments.
There will also be a visit to their newly developed Peace Garden and the chance to see some artwork produced by Coloursplash Artspace (Cumnock), Connections Artspace (Irvine), Fin (the Workshops’ resident artist), and Brush Strokes Artspace (Ayr).
The Workshops’ team of trainees, volunteers and staff will be on hand to talk about their journey so far and share their exciting plans for the future. Refreshments will be provided.
