NHS Ayrshire & Arran works hard to maintain a sustainable nursing and midwifery workforce using the NHSScotland Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Workload Planning Tools, as mandated by the Cabinet Secret for Health, Wellbeing and Sport and Chief Nursing Officer.
Within NHS Ayrshire & Arran, the level of the nursing and midwifery workforce (including registered and unregistered staff) has increased significantly over the last ten years:
- 2007: 4,575 members of staff (3,982.3 Whole time equivalent (WTE))
- 2017*: 5,044 members of staff (4,324.4 WTE)
