Statement by Eddie Fraser, Director of East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership
Mental health illnesses including depression have many causes and many treatments and interventions. Every patient is different and requires different levels of help and support.
Family doctors assess and diagnose their patients according to the individual circumstances and need.
The treatments for those diagnosed with anxiety or depression are agreed in partnership with the patient. There are a number of treatments available. Some of the more common treatments include guided self-help, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Other treatments include referral to counselling services and anti-depressant medication depending on the severity of the person’s depression.
We are also working at providing more ways for people to receive help and support when and where they need it. Currently, we are working on providing patients with the option of having access to the ‘Beating the Blues’ app.
