Statement by Liz Moore, Director for Acute Services
NHS Ayrshire & Arran works closely with our partners in the three local Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) to ensure that patients are discharged from hospital as soon as they are medically able and to the most appropriate place.
The Scottish Government target is that no person will wait more than 14 days to be discharged from hospital into a more appropriate care setting, once their treatment is complete. Our performance against this target is reported at every meeting of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board.
We recognise that each individual person’s circumstances are unique and occasionally we see patients being cared for in hospital longer than required due to more complex discharge arrangements to transfer their care to a community setting. This is often related to legislative processes for people who lack capacity to make decisions for their future. We will continue to work with our partners to ensure patients are discharged from hospital appropriately.
